Persian, Hellenistic, and early Roman Jerusalem

The linked chapter (downloads as pdf) describes the reestablishment of Jerusalem as a temple city under Persian rule, in the late 6th and 5th century BCE, its development in the Hellenistic age (following the conquests of Alexander “the Great”), until its destruction by the Romans in 70 CE. This period is commonly referred to as the Second Temple Period.
